The Mandarin program at James Cook Primary focuses on developing students’ second language skills, in the five main components of listening, speaking, reading, writing and intercultural understanding.
The curriculum is delivered through engaging activities such as singing popular Chinese nursery songs, storytelling, hands-on experiences and dramatic acting, to help immerse and cement the students’ understandings and develop their Chinese language skills.
Students are also exposed to the culture and tradition of China through a variety of incursions, excursions and projects. They include the Chinese New Year and the Asian Moon Festival.
